Vernor Vinge, author of Rainbows End, and other award winning novels, as well as the original paper about the Technological Singularity presented at a NASA conference, converses with David Orban of OpenSpime about the future of networked smart sensors, spimes. Their promise, and dangers, as they develop and get widely adopted in society.

  • Half of it? The interviewer spoke for less than two minutes. For someone who poses to question the intelligence of an other, one would thing that you'd at least be able to estimate ratios a bit better.

Thanks for sharing this; great video.

  • The explanation is clear, the questions are difficult and necessary long (they also must explain some concepts to the audience). The video is very good.

The 'killer app' they are talking about is something Vinge cared about enough to take this interesting interview, so the last sentence of the first comment is not verified in at least one case, and maybe the most important case in this context.

  • Yes...because the solution to climate change is to invest our resources in smart parking lots. Because my stoned ass really needs a chair that will tell me when its about to break...

  • Don't waste your time, this interview is 9 minutes long and half of it is this fat bastard talking, not Vernor. Dude, if you're going to interview a genius, just turn on the video and let the man speak. Nobody cares about your trivial CO2 monitoring 'killer app'.
