  • Yeah I have heard about the 24 hour races, We have them only in the eastern states but not here in Perth unfortunately. Another unfortunate thing is our mountans are over in the eastern states as well. We have hills here in Perth but they still make for some good MTBing.

  • Oh thats cool, we race in summer, when the temperature is about 25-40 C°, sometimes in sunshine, sometimes in rain. Our season is during from May to Sept-October.

My team mates started in a 24 hour race in duo. They take about 300 km during the race and arrived to the third place :)

  • Damn thats cold. Our race season is during the winter months. During summer it gets hell hot over here 40C° to 50C°. So we ride during the rainy muddy winter months. Im preparing for a 12 hour race at the moment which is the last race held over here until March.

  • OMG Australia? An other side of earth. :) I live in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary.

Now its raining and about 4-10 C° so i can't go out to train in MTB trails, now im just prepare the races in next year on a road bicycle.

  • Yeah. All the guys i asked said the same thing. Where do you live anyway? Im from Perth, Australia and we have really loose pebbly trails here, You need some really agressive tyres during summer but its OK during Winter.

  • I use a disc brake too, im just want to say, that it's heavyer then V. By the way im an elite u23 racer, and i see a lot of racer with V brake. If the time is good, no mud and no rain, the V brake is equivalent with a disc brake.

  • whats 300grams extra when you ride a full carbon bike. And besides. You cant beat disk's for responsive braking and in case of a buckle or rain, disks aren't effected. But you guys make a good point! 300 grams is 300 grams. I ride with a couple of elites on occation and during several races but have never seen or heard anything about V's being used in MTB, Ill ask them about it though.

  • OMG you think that disk brake isnt heavier than V-brake? The lightest V-brake I known is KCNC which is 106 gramm/pair (brake, and brake levers). There is'nt so light disc brake.

  • Im finding it odd that everyone is loosing it everywhere and taking it too slow on some of the downhill. Somtimes its safer to go a little faster than too slow to allow the bike to flow over the rocks, slowing down causes the bike to bounce badly. Looks like great fun though. And disk breaks arnt that heavy compared to V's, Most pros use the new XTR duel shifters This is the first time i have heard of V breaks still in use.

  • disc brakes are heavier, for less technical courses high end riders choose v-brakes
