An impoverished, estranged family reunite to bury their father. Meanwhile Dad, Jacob Sr., lies on the couch decomposing. Eldest sibling Holly, appalled by her family's complacency, arrives on the scene with new girlfriend, Millie. Sister Crystal, too busy drowning her plants and babying her British, free-loading boyfriend, evades her sister's disapproval. Lawrence, having just completed his brush with enlightenment in India, is at ease with his father's passing and tries convincing Holly to embrace Dad's company as a corpse.
"Many cultures lay their dead in their homes."
"Our family doesn't have any culture." Then there's Junior, named after Jacob, resembling no-one except perhaps the other love children of Ravi Shankar. Last but not least, Gabe, the baby raised by Mom, Cybil, alienated by his siblings, confronts one of his biggest fears - his sister Holly.
The neighbors who want to be part of the family - sleep-deprived Josh married to a fertile nymphomaniac and tomato breeding Mickey, Holly's high school sweetheart assist the siblings in burying Dad.
