or you can also select the multiple objects altogether and apply the modifier.

No need to apply an unwrap. Create a multiple material then assign them via polygon material Ids.

Wouldn't it be possible to use just one box and then apply an unwrap uvw? (Or use 3 different materials)
I'm a rookie when it comes to this and looking for professional advice :P

Thanks very much for the tutorial. Very easy to understand and useful. One question though. How did you get all of the individual boxes to follow the spline together?

They were all attached to each other by making them one object. In this case, an editable poly.
