10 months on and the pond has matured nicely. The water has remained crystal clear since day 1. I've added heaps on new water plants and removed the bluestone from the bottom and replaced them with a small rounded brown river rock/gravel. This was to add more light to the pond and also made it easier to vacuum the bottom. I found that the blue metal gravel that I was using on the top of my pots was making the water alkaline so I also removed them and replaced with the river rock as well.

  • The same as when you asked on my other vid 20-25 + 10 white clouds. ;)

  • That's a difficult question to answer. Basically I did a lot of research and saw what other people have done. Then more research showed different methods but in the end it comes down to the rock you end up with as it governs what you can and cant do. After that it's down to your own DIY ability and artistic flair.

  • i've used scrub pads for my diy filter... they don't seem to be working, it's only been a week though... how long does it take before the scrub pads start to collect the green algae?

  • @montyloree Yeah it can take a while, especially if it's cold where you are (below about 13C) . After 2 weeks I gave up waiting and seeded my filter with some "BLAGDON FILTER BACTERIA" The results were literally overnight. Not that It's the only stuff that will work so much as it's the only stuff I could source locally :)

  • Dunno about that. Mines a "skippy filter" and I built it loosely based on common online guides and it works perfectly so I can recommend them. I don't know anything about pressure filters sorry.

  • great pond.

  • hi i have a question how did you do your waterfall its so nice i have been trying to make a waterfall just like that one but i dont know how thank you

  • @DVRblur good to know... i went and purchased some "Clean Fast" which coagulates the algae, and then some filter wool which is finer then scrub pads... I think I just have way too much algae in my pool... I'll get all those algae if it takes me all summer :) thanks DVRblur

  • im making a DIY filter. You think if I water tight the lid, it'll still be good as a pressure filter rather than like urs a gravity?
