This was another insightful interview. I love these. Keep up the great work!

Another interesting perspective, keep 'em coming!

@andymooseman I'm hoping to present a number of different perspective to creating on YouTube, particularly on the countless reasons people are here aside from making it a business. I also think that, like creating in other mediums, if you start from the the idea of simply making money, as opposed to creating good work, you're not long for this (YouTube) world. (Of course, I suppose you could build a career making horrible television or movies, so maybe I have to think about that a bit...)

I remember when people on YT made videos because they enjoyed doing so & not just to try & make some money. As i said in my own interview, i have no problem with money making, but... :)
I think many people get too hung up on the potential money making aspect of YT & forget that it's meant to be fun too. Once it starts to feel like work, why carry on?
Many of us came to YT as an alternative to tv. I'd hate to see it become just another tv station.
Keep up the good work Rich.

@kenrg I was thinking the same thing Ken.
It would be interesting to see what You Tube would be like in 5 years. I'm not very accustomed to being at the launching point of something that's going to take off. So far I've been feeling that I missed the departure because I didn't start my channel until 3 years after You Tube began. It seems all the most popular You Tube personalities, so far, are those who were on You Tube close to when it started.

@EdElisea I think part of that, as Andy said in another comment) is that they were here before there was a financial incentive. I'd like to interview the YouTube equivalent of young filmmakers - who are here first because they love to create. The greed thing - and out celebrity culture - doesn't begin to approach the potential of this as a medium of expression.

Josh mentions some good points. YouTube is more a hobby for me in my old age, but I do make money from it... not a lot, but everything counts in small amounts. So many people ask me how I make money that I started another channel (I have 5 montetized channels) to try to teach people things including how to be successful on YouTube... check it out... my ButchPatrol channel. I don't put a lot up there but you may learn some tips and tricks. There are some tricks I still keep secret for now.

@butchnews I'll check you channels out - I did look at them briefly - and it reminds me that I haven't even begun to look at one of the most profound aspects of YouTube (and social media in general) - as a tool for social change.

Another interesting point-of-view regarding the marketing aspect. Interesting that he states that successful vloggers start with some other type of content, then get into vlogging. This is the opposite, really, of how many of us started "back in the day" - when many started with straight talking-head vlogs then expanded into broader productions. Can't wait to see who's next...
