Global Calgary - Oil sands tour

Global Calgary's Bindu Suri is in Fort McMurray touring a Suncor oilsands site. Suncor is using their latest tailings technology at their site near Fort McMurray to reduce the number of tailings ponds it needs. The technology is called TRO.
In simple terms, a tailings pond is no longer needed to store clay like material also known at MFT.
That also means the land can be reclaimed much faster.
The pictures show where the MFT ends up. Here, the technology helps dry it out in a matter of weeks. It would take hundreds of years to settle if left in a tailings pond.
