The Children's Heart Hospital (CHH) & Research Institute Pakistan Part 2

We are working on a possibility of developing a Non Commercial congenital/pediatric cardiac center in the private sector in the area of greater Lahore. Currently there is no recognized or established separate Pediatric Cardiac/Heart Centre in the Punjab or Pakistan. There is a strong international history and precedence for developing such a center and it will be first of its kind in the country. ...The heart center will function as a tertiary referral center for children not only from other sister institutions but also from other cities of the province and other provinces of the country.

History: In Pakistan approximately 5 million children are born each year. Congenital heart defects (CHD) account for the largest portion of treatable inherited birth defects. The incidence of CHD is about 8 per 1000 live births and this indicates that about 40,000 children per year will need pediatric cardiac care.

Due to lack of adequate facilities and personnel children with congenital cardiac anomalies are either unable to get timely care either die, become inoperable or are transferred to India. This situation has led to children from the country going to India or to the West for their surgeries if they can afford to do so. This leads to expenditure of foreign exchange, as well as loss of work hours and income, and significant inconvenience to patients and their families. This situation is also a source of shame to the nation as a whole because trained and skilled physicians are present in the country ready to provide these services

The initial project planned would include a facility that has the following infrastructure:
* Overall hospital beds: 70-75
* CU beds: 25
* CSICU: 20
* CICU: 5
* Step down : 15
* Floor Beds: 20
* ER: 5
* Misc: 10
* Operating Rooms: 2
* Angiography suite: 1
* Echo Suites: 2
* Consultation offices: 10-20
* Radiology facilities
* CT scanner
* Central Supply (CSSD)
* Pharmacy
* Central hospital laboratory
* Cafeteria
