As the current economic crisis continues onwards with no clear end in sight, and with recent unemployment statistics released this month alarmingly rampant, American youth fresh out of college are struggling to find entry-level jobs. More experienced middle-aged workers, who are forced to take low-paying positions they are overqualified for, are being hired over college graduates, who are in turn taking unskilled positions normally occupied by high school teens. The rate of jobless college graduates has doubled in the past year and is particularly high among black male graduates. On June 17, TCF hosted an event to discuss what policy should be enacted in order to provide college grads with good employment prospects in this bad economy!
@Cubatraveler College is all about WHO you know to get you a job.

I have a master's degree, a job history that includes mostly temping in low-level work that I haven't been able to get for years (only women friends report success with temping), and I am partially disabled and limited to a desk job. Unless VESID can get me work, my choices seem to be between homelessness or spasming, falling, and burning my face off on a fast food grill. When I was in school, I was determined to be a genius, testing 97% or higher on everything but math (73).

What a joke. WTF are these people even talking about? Surrounded by young students who can't get jobs so they sit on a high horse and just talk talk talk.

Formula for success: Go to university, study hard, get a relative to hand you a job when you graduate. Don't have relatives who can hire or influence hiring? Don't bother with university, it won't do you any good.

How you should fix them yourself? I think that speaks volumes about how dysfunctional our system has become. Instead of calling on our legislators and business leaders to address these issues, we put them in the laps of 21 year old graduates with thousands of dollars in debt.

@kully007 :CONT>> unless it is laced with insult. Why? B/c one has to typically break your wall of ego, to influence your logical mind. See, the way you have been educated is to base false teachings in line with your ego - which makes any attempts to correct you seen as inferior or below the false sense of "security" you've been influenced to believe in via your "education". Dont worry ,your just now "opening your eyes" to the truth-question everything, most importantly whatever pisses you off!

@kully007 : oh was that you're lame attempt at insulting me ?? Normally I would've posted a "haha" for charity's sake,...but it was juvenile and pathetically boring, Ill just cut to the chase and tell you : #1 you dont really know shit (which is evident by the so called talking "points" you tried to bring up) & #2 insulting YOU is on par with complimenting you. How? You may ask? Well, it boils down to people like you will ignore any common sensical answer given to you, unless it is laced CONT>>

@kully007 : CONT>>> Of course the monetary system is fucked! It's based on FIAT CURRENCY that isn't backed by ANYTHING but human nature to trust in whatever "powers" that "be" tell you trust in them!! Again, DUH !! Why do you think gold and precious metals keep gaining in value and are becoming harder to come by ?? B/c the wealthiest 5 to 1% WILL SOON BE BUYING IT ALL UP & increasing the prices to attain it !! You starting to "get" all of this?? !! What else do I need to educate YOU in?? !!
