"A Short History of the HAM Surname in Virginia & NC" (copyright 2003) was compiled by David Hamm and co-authored by Geneva S. Greer and Susan Bullock. The largest and most complete compilation of HAM surname origins to date. Using the more ancient spelling of the name, this book utilizes original source records, manuscripts, and documents to describe the early history and genealogy of the HAM surname in France, England, Virginia, North Carolina, and surrounding states. In three volumes: Volume 1 "Origins & Migration," Volume 2 "Virginia" and Volume 3 "North Carolina." This video trailer was re-formatted from the DVD original.

Music by Ilya Gordon, Gregorian Sense, and Steve Massey.

  • Hi thermo1984.

Yes, a number of the HAM(M/E) lines of England, Normandy, and Germany have been traced back to "Adam" in the DNA Project.

No DNA participants from France or Netherlands to date.

You do not mention which castle in your note, there were several.

  • Nice video, have you been able to trace Ham back before France and England? Ham appears to be High German, and after investigating Ham castle it was founded by van hamme which would link it to the low german (Dutch) speaking area of Westphalia and Hamm, Hamme and Hahm. Would like to know your thoughts, thanks.
