@MudRFunR THANKS I'LL CHECK IT OUT.
THE TAIL:... UNTIL YOU ARE PULLING CURRENT FROM THE ALTERNATOR, YOU WOULD GET VERY LITTLE WIND DRAG ON THE BLADES TO TURN THE TAIL BECAUSE THE ROTOR WOULD JUST SPIN FASTER AND LET THE WIND RIGHT THROUGH WITHOUT RESISTANCE. I WOULD SUGGEST A SCREEN DOOR SPRING. CONNECT IT SO THAT IT IS RELAXED AT FULL FORWARD POSITION. LATER WHEN IT IS GENERATING, IT WILL ACT DIFFERENT THAN IT DOES NOW.

@muddymuddymuddmann Sorry, It's been a while. I don't think I have any wire but I can get it. No magnets either or a spring. If I know what I'm buying I can get it. Anyway, I am posting another windmill video today, showing a close up shot of the windmill.

You might try using just 3 wind blades because the idea is to get more speed.

@muddymuddymuddmann I SUGGEST A MAGNET ROTOR DISK WITH A DIFFERENT SETUP THAN MOST HAVE SEEN. I THINK YOU WILL LOVE IT. AND AN AIR CORE STATER THAT IS AS SUPER EASY, AS IT IS STRANGE. BESIDES I HAVE BEEN ITCHING TO FIND TIME TO MAKE ANOTHER VIDEO. SEND ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND I WILL SEND A PHOTO. I BELIEVE YOU WILL STARE AT IT WITH AMAZEMENT TO THE SIMPLICITY. DO YOU HAVE ANY CAT5 CABLE, OR SOLID CORE TELEPHONE WIRE? AND ANY MAGNETS? THE SPRING FOR THE AUTO FURLING MECHANISM SHOULD BE LONG AND LIGHTER THAN A SCREEN DOOR SPRING. ALSO THE SPRING CAN BE ELIMINATED BY TILTING THE TAIL HINGE BEARING BACK A BIT. THIS ALLOWS THE LENGTH AND WEIGHT OF THE TAIL TO BE THE FURLING ADJUSTMENT. THE FIRLING MECHANISM IS AN OVER SPEED PROTECTION.
GIVE ME A SHOT OF THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BLADES. THIS WILL HELP

@MudRFunR Looked at your vid again and with all that wind it doesn't look like it is turning at all just the tail is moving. Pos&neg 10gauge wires from alt to a 12v battery at the base of the windmill and from there to your load. Get it running and put a DC clamp amp meter on one of the lines and see how many amps it is putting out. Don't expect too much. Let us know what you were thinking of powering up. I think you would be lucky to get 10 amps DC out of it.

THE FIELD WINDING USUALLY USE MORE ELECTRICITY IN LOWER WINDS THAT THEY PRODUCE. THE ALTERNATOR IS MORE CLOSELY MATCHED FOR A FULL SIZED WINDMILL. MY SUGGESTION WOULD INVOLVE LEAVING THE ALTERNATOR AS IS FOR THE BEARINGS AND GREAT WORK YOUR DAD DID IN HIS DREAM OF A WORKING UNIT. I THINK IT LOOKS PRETTY COOL. I FIGURE WE CAN USE THE ALTERNATOR AS A BASE TO MOUNT A FEW OTHER PARTS. THIS SHOULD LAST MANY YEARS. I HAVE A NEW DESIGN THAT IS SUPER EASY.

I AM WORKING ON A SIMILAR ONE IN MY YARD. IT MADE IT'S DEBUT IN ONE OF THE LAST GARDEN VIDEOS JUST LAYING DOWN. THE DIAMETER OF THE BLADE ROTOR IS CLOSE TO 2 FOOT. THE AVAILABILITY OF POWER IN THE WIND SWEPT AREA IN A 10 MPH WIND IS ABOUT 5.6 WATTS, AND 20 MPH REACHES 45 WATTS. THIS WOULD BE WITH A DIFFERENT BLADE SETUP. THE ALTERNATOR BRINGS IN A NEW SET OF DETAILS TO THE FORMULA. MOST ALTERNATORS NEED 700+ RPMS TO GENERATE. AND USE A FIELD WINDING TO MAKE MAGNETS FLUX. CONTINUED
looks pretty well made!! I'd just put a grid tie inverter on it and pump it back into the house!! I don't even know if you need a spring up there, I never seen that!! Maybe you could just weld the tail in place!!☺

@805ROADKING Thanks! That's what I have no knowledge of is tying into the grid and /or storing the energy. I think I'm just going to put a strong spring on it.
