The Frugal Gourmet, aired by WTTW Chicago, was one of many cooking shows that I watched in the mid 80's. I recall thinking that Jeff Smith was pretty hilarious when I was a kid. Check out this classic clip.
Jeff Smith was my first TV culinary influence, my grandmother was my first :-D I always liked how he talks to the camera like you are standing there. I wonder if Alton Brown of good eats picked up some inspiration from Jeff's device...
While kids were watching cartoons I was watching Frugal or the Galloping Gormet and the Queen of all cooking shows Julia. Never happier days than PBS on the TV.
The Frug! I lived in Seattle when the Frug (that's what we call him) was in his heyday.
I wish they would put his shows on DVD to be enjoyed again in their entirerty,. This clip ended a little too soon to get the rest of the recipe. But thank you so much for posting this.
