Dr. Gerard demonstrates the use of catheters for chemotherapy in a patient with lymphoma on Channel 5. He shows the patient and family the specific procedures utilizing balloons as a teaching tool.
Dr. Gerard uses balloons to teach patients and physicians the concepts of disease and treatment. This is a simplified method developed by Dr. Gerard, easy to understand so individuals can have an easier understanding of disease. Dr. Gerard can create the entire human body out of balloons, show all diseases and abnormalities, demonstrate treatments and surgery, and show concepts of preventative medicine. He claims there is no disease he cannot demonstrate with balloons. He has appeared on many major television and radio stations. It is also known that patients who understand their diseases will have a quicker recovery period. Many have compared Dr. Gerard to "Patch Adams", with respect to his help of children and adults. • It is all about patient education, creating an informed consumer with simplified tested techniques. Patients who understand their disease and treatments will have a more uneventful recovery process. Families will understand how to further enhance and support those who need their help and assistance. That is really what it is all about. A smile and a nod of the head indicating understanding.

  • Interesting. And good that he has this special talent to help put kids at ease and get them to feel better about what’s going to happen.

But every hospital I’ve visited, latex balloons are a big NO-NO due to the allergy factor… even a balloon that doesn’t touch a patient still leaves the latex particles in the air, hence the “no latex balloons allowed” policy anywhere in the building.
