Boris' novel was inspired by two women (his wife and mistress) whom he loved very much. Boris even said that when he was writing the parts about Lara, he was doing so with his mistress in mind.

Excellent films on the Russian Revolution are "Quiet Flows the Don", "Pavel Korchagin", "Life of Klim Samgin" and the famous Maksim trilogy.

The movie and book suck. Zhivago is nothing but an anti-social outcast who hangs on to petit-bourgeois delusions and shows hostility to the people's revolutionary struggle. Pasternak was a loser.

Content-wise, the film has no soul or emotion. You don't believe for a second that they are actually Russians. They do not capture Russian cultural traits. Compare this with Russian movies from the 1930s, and you'll see.

"Dr.Zhivago" is the best movie EVER to me, however, you are entitled to your opinion. This movie took three years to make. It's a masterpiece! Can you name another movie that has taken just as long to make?

Pasternak was an outsider looking in. Hence, the lack of cultural traits. The Zhivago character reflects that. I agree with the lack of soul and emotion part on characters and scenes concerning Russians.

One thing you can't deny is the chemistry between Julie Christie and Omar Sharif is what made this moive.
