This is a good way to remove rust and not harm the good steel of the tool. No scratch marks. and the result is a nice patina of a old loved tool. You might want to give this a try. Check out more detail information on the internet before trying out.
Nice benchtop bath - but the vinegar soak is easier. I prefer phosphoric acid bath as it leaves a phosphate film which is a great rust inhibitor. I get mine fromHome Depot in the form of Behr Concrete Cleaner. One correction to your video- you said that baking soda and washing soda "are the same thing". They actually aren't. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate NaHCO3 and washing soda is sodium carbonate Na2CO3. Washing soda forms a stronger more efficient electrolyte for this electrolysis process.
Jim, I've done that as well and yeah, it's a neat way to get rid of rust, but really, I found that just dropping my tools in some vinegar and forgetting about them really did a much cleaner job of it and it rinsed off very well. It's all I do now for my antique tools. And like I mentioned, you can just drop them in and forget about 'em. Come back a week or so later and they're just fine.
