This past Mother's Day, I gave my mother a box set with 10 DVDs representing the worst mothers on film. I could have done the best mothers, but that would have been boring and not as much fun to work with. I created a special video counting down the top ten and this is #6-Anne Ramsey as Mrs. Lift in Throw Momma From the Train. Anne Ramsey is one of my partner's favorite actresses, so he agreed to be interviewed.
I'm not allowed to embed this one because MGM and Warner Bros. put a copyright hold on it. I use less than a minute and a half of The Goonies and the scenes from Throw Momma, we're talking over to discuss her character. I guess they don't consider it fair use. The intent of the clips is to show how her character could reach #6 on a list of worst mothers on film. The clips from Throw Momma were taken from the compilation of scenes by You Tube user http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZLxAlTrhPA Scream 261 and The Goonies scenes from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5UG7ISJfP0 SteamPictures...Oh well...

@thegameulost The authors studied 15 men who committed matricide. The majority were diagnosed as having chronic schizophrenia and had been living alone with their mothers. Other diagnoses included substance-induced psychosis and impulse disorders.

I know that when a son harbors borderline homicidal resentment towards his father (typically on account of seeing his father as a rival for his mother's attention), it's called an Oedipus complex, and if it's a daughter hating her mother as a rival for her father's attention, it's an Elektra complex, but what's it called when a son wants to kill his mother like the protagonist of this movie does?

@84Pluisje Thank you! I don't know about strong, the first month was traumatic. I was the only one in the family who knew the odds from the start. She was only 55, than I lost a 34 y/o cousin to lung cancer just 10 weeks later. And before they passed on, my uncle began his own cancer battle that he is starting to loose. It didn't take me long to become angry and than eventually sort of numb or disconnected. I died a little myself. It's similar to what happens when soldiers experience trauma.

I've always found this movie to be hilarious, but unfortunately, I just lost my mother to pancreatic cancer last year. Though my mother was always and stayed much better looking than Anne Ramsey, cancer drastically changed both of their appearances. When she kisses DeVito on the cheek, water came to my eyes for the first time. It reminded me of when my mother walked over to kiss my cheek in her last days. But yeah, I recommend the movie to everybody. It's so funny.
