All these abs exercises in which the legs are involved not the best for the abs because such exercises put much strain on the musculus iliposoas. You can feel it in you hips.
Better do some sit ups with you calves lying on a bench so you can't involve you hip muscles.

Why is coffee bad for your abs? I'm under the impression that It has almost zero calories it's extremely high in antioxidants and the caffeine raises your metabolism causing you to burn more calories at rest.

The best "exercise" for the abdominal muscles is to cut back on the carbs. As has been stated so many times you can not shrink the abdominals by excessive sit ups or crunches.
In other words follow Dr. Atkins and have low carb leafy green vegetables and avoid excessive coffee.
