Spain's foreign minister says a final peace deal is still possible between Israel and the Palestinians. The remarks came after a meeting with Egypt's president on Saturday, the same day that a Palestinian teenager was reportedly killed by Israeli troops, casting shadows on peace prospects.
Spain's Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo on Saturday.
At a press conference after the meeting, Moratinos said he hopes the Palestinians and Israel will come to terms with their war-torn past by the year's end.
Miguel Moratinos, Spanish Foreign Minister said "I think that's its still possible to have a final agreement with the Palestinians and Israelis. I think the talks between Prime Minister Olmert and President Mahmoud Abbas has been extremely important."
The foreign minister also said the international community can and will help broker a peace deal, but it's up to the two parties to make the final decision.
Also holding talks with Mubarak on Saturday was EU Foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
Solana expressed hope the Israelis and Palestinians would make progress at the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting next week.
He also said even if a final agreement could not be reached, something tangible needs to be secured from previous negotiations.
But optimism was shadowed by a deadly strike in the West Bank.
Israeli troops reportedly shot and killed a 16-year-old Palestinian teenager. Witnesses say Israeli soldiers opened fire upon entering the village and shot the teenager in the chest.
Peace talks beginning last November have been constantly marred by violence, and disputes over Jewish settlement buildings. The talks were further delayed by a corruption scandal involving Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

''Shouldnt the Palestinians have been the ones to offer the Jews land among themselves and the matter of rejecting it or accepting it be laid at their feet rather then the other way around?''... ''I do not believe (listening to the testimonies and actions, as well as policies & the breaking of the Geneva convention and more international laws then every other country) that they want peace. ''

Howso? If I equally believe the same thing across the board no matter who it is. Whether its the U.S or Isreal or Palestine, I not unfair. Pist, yes.. emotional? I can be, I lost my little girl at 6 I know the pain of it but certainly not by some man sticking a gun in her face delighting to blow it off. I think that would hurt a heck of alot more then an illness. Mostly because you cant get as angry at an illness but you might recall the smile on the mans face as he takes the life of your child

No it would have a little something to do with the comments you've been making.

Enlighten me to what my attitude toward a conflict should be when I simply made a factual statement from the beginning
Kill a child = child killer
Why is MY "attitude" problematic?
KARStarla 3 years ago
No... it's your attitude towards the conflict.
Bevan30000 3 years ago
Yeah sure being discusted and horrified at the killing of children = terrorist
That makes so much sense ...?

In 1947? The Palestinians were not in the position to allocate the land. In fact it was the UN which passed the resolution and it was the British which owned what was then known as the Biritsh Mandate of Palestians.
I think you'd make a fantastic Hamas spokesman.

Besides with the hostilities and hatred I've witnessed on here alone toward the Palestinians I couldnt forsee a more unsafe neighbor even behind bars (which was also shown in one video) where the Palestinians were caged in and harrased continuously.
Peace peace peace (they say) but there is no real peace

..and Gaza (at Camp David) but Arafat rejected it and in return Israel got suicide bombings. Do you know that this week Ehud Olmert proposed to his cabinet to offer 98.1% of land demanded by Fatah in return for peace. Do you know that there are 1 million Palestinians living in Israel who recieve all the freedoms and liberties that are valued in a democracy. 1/2 of the Palestinian uni students are female. Theres freedom of religion and sexual orientation. Can this be said for Arab countries?
