I think there is the most genius explanation of the term "hell" IN THE BOOK: in the movie they explained it a bit of dramatic...I think in the book, hell is very personal reality of denial, and person who goes to" hell" trappes himself within it . And they actually can end this state any time they realise that they dont have to punish themselves...Mostly those ppl think they have some foult, and punish themselves. Hell is made out of thought and mental cognition concerning the reality...
