Just battling. There is variety in the types of battles, but there is no overworld. You don't encounter wild Pokémon; you either use Rental Passes provided by the game or transfer Pokémon from your DS game.

No story, just battles. But you can upload your team from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum onto it and also have WiFI matches.

Have you ever played the Nintendo 64 games Stadium and Stadium 2? It's like that, nothing but battles.
