This is actually three silent British Pathe clips spliced together with suitable soundtrack added. The first is the big landslide at Gore Cliff in 1928 that cut off the coastal road that ran from Ventnor to Blackgang filmed the day after. The road had to be relocated inland.
The second is of another subsidence at Ventnor Undercliffe in 1926 which brought traffic to a standstill, well a bus actually!
And lastly, just a bit of sightseeing in Ventnor filmed around the same time.
brilliant upload, this part of the island ,its views, history with landslips & buildings has always fascinated me,i hope they can find a permanent solution to the military road land slip and not cost cut a temporary solution.

This was some landslip! It is surprising to learn that safety precautions appear to be almost non existent in these days. The people walking near to the edge seem to have been impervious to the danger.
Thank you for posting this most interesting film.
