@somethinglacking1 Not really. In fact Samwise is the original name in English. In Spain his name is Samsagaz Gamyi (in Spanish sagaz = listo/inteligente, that's wise on English).

this scene gets so powerful right around :59.. thats when frodo's hand grabs sam and you hear the orchestra strings come into the music when he pulls him out! so epic!!

@frizzletot Yes, but doesn't the ring kind of have an influence on Frodo? The ring wants to be found, so doesn't it have an influence on how Frodo thinks? I would imagine the ring knows Gollum is a better choice than Sam because Sam is out to destroy the ring, while Gollum does not.
