Aswad was arguably Britain's most successful reggae band, in terms of both popularity and longevity. Critical opinion on their body of work is often divided; some hail their early material as the greatest roots reggae Britain ever produced, while others find their later pop-crossover phase more distinctive and unique, even at the expense of authenticity. Regardless, Aswad's ability to adapt themselves to the changing times -- new musical trends, shifting personnel -- was ultimately the driving force behind their decades-long career.
BY the FUN RASTA MUSIC..

African Children
------
Many African children,
Living in a concrete situation
African children
Living in a concrete situation
African children
I wonder do they know where you're coming from
African children
Down there yes in a concrete situation
African children
I wonder do they know where you're coming from
The whole of the nation
Living in these tenements,
Crying and applying to their council
For assistance every day
Now that their tribulation so sad
Now that their environment so bad
High rise concrete
No back yard for their children to play
African children
I wonder do they know where you're coming from,
African children
In a concrete situation
African children
Wonder do they know where you're coming from
All of the nation are living in these tenements
Precast stonewall concrete cubicals
Their rent increases each and every other day
Structural repairs are assessed yet not done
Lift out of action on the twenty-seventh floor
And when they work they smell
African children
Living in a concrete situation
African children
I wonder do they know where you're coming from
African children
Living in a concrete situation
African children
I wonder do they know where you're coming from
African children
Down there down there in a concrete situation
African children
Wonder do they know where you're coming from
Where you're coming from
African children
REPEAT

Sometimes wanting to party late into the night
And when they're out of sight
The neighbours' complaining again
And its a place where
You don't even know your neighbour's name
It's a ghetto in the sky

  • Poor kids in Africa, they are always suffering: There parents make fast love and get kids, they are unwanted born. They often sell or throw those kids away in Africa. In the hope to make money, they sell them. I was there, how to explain to those childern when they are grown up and there parents are white. It does not mean when girls grow older you use them for sex. I feel insulted as a black Jewish girl, some of my black sisters misuse their body.

Sex is just one moment pleasure, love eternal.

  • nice nice nice!!!!!

  • Com pass by my yard in South London!!!!! Respect. Grew up with these tunes. Smoke a little, play dominoes and drink rum, make love to a fit woman. and put a good tune on open the windows and let everyone know!!!!!

  • Saw them live in '75 in Gloucester...only white guy in the room and some excellent Congolese, so no shortage of new friends : )

Delroy Washington was with them as well...must have been about 15 people on stage and the dubs they dropped live were just awesome.

  • Saw them play here in Bristol on Sunday. Once they'd got the bland reggae ballads out of the way early on in the set it was top Dub and old skool - remembered why I was initially blown away hearing them at 9 years old on John Peel.

  • much better live than studio

  • Boo Yaa Kaa!! :-) love dese dudes!!

  • keep it on son!

  • This was my era to. I just finished watching the BBC$ Documentary Reggae Britania. What good memories I remember following Coxson, Saxon, Twelve Tribe. I have this album still. Love it. I need to return to UK after 25 years here in the US.
