When foraging for food, the Cataglyphis Ant can embark on a seemingly random journey from its nest equivalent to an astonishing 40 miles, yet can run directly back to its nest using the shortest path possible once it finds food. How does it accomplish this feat of navigation??

  • Living in the Sahara is like living on the moon. The adaptive pressures are so extreme that everything that lives there is gonna be the equivalent of ant that can do geometry in its head.

An ant forged in the desert is definitely a cut above her temperate cousins.

  • wow, a thoughtful comment! thanks for sharing!

  • watching this shit baked is amazing.

  • hahaha. word.

  • Ants will rule this world long after we are gone

  • i think its not guaranteed (we haven't destroyed ourselves yet), but its a good possibility. they're so dominant in so many areas of the world. perhaps the most successful species in existence.

  • What Attenborough program is this?

  • @emjayxluv in the same way that some aborigines can only fathom directions relative to north, south, east, west, and not to themselves. there's no left, right, front, back, and thus, they have an almost ingrained sense of direction many of us cannot get, even with a compass.

  • FREMEN ANTS!!!

  • I knew I was going to be watching a video about nature, but how did I know the narrator was going to be British?

  • Subhan Allah!!
