A renowned heart surgeon, scientist, and academician, UT Austin graduate Bud Frazier has applied his vast experience to the research and development of new cardiovascular surgical techniques. His research has led to the development of the "beat-less" artificial heart. In his roles at both the Texas Heart Institute, as well as chief of transplant services at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, he has performed more than 1,000 heart transplants and was the first to perform a cardiac transplant in an infant.
