Multi-touch tabletop technology opens up new ways of interacting with computers. By using physical pressure as an input medium, using a computer is both intuitive and easy to control. The video shows the process of designing a multi-touch tabletop-based game by students from the Interactive Multimedia Lab in the National University of Singapore.
While it may look all geeky and complicated, the video hopes to show how different cultural influences, good teamwork and technical skills can be harnassed to design next generation interactive multimedia applications. Hopefully, it'll inspire more budding programmers to dwelve into the realm of hardware as well. It ain't as difficult as it looks, after all!
The technical details aside, the game is about kite fighting, an activity participated by many people all over Asia. In this activity, at least 2 kites are flown simultaneously. The kites use specialised strings that are coated with glass, making it sharp and capable of cutting the opponent's string. The winner will be one that manages to cut the opponent's kite string, withhis or her string remaining intact. A detailed description of the game mechanics is detailed within the video. Enjoy!
