Some ciné film I acquired of a trip to the Isle of Wight in 1963. Can anyone identify some of the locations for me to include in the making of a planned DVD? e.g. giving the mins/secs. position on the video.
My inspiration for this upload was in watching some of the other IOW stuff on YouTube.

My own visit (to Havenstreet) was in 1989 by mountain bike from Brockenhurst - via Ryde hospital. [i.e. I was knocked off my bike by an artic. and received 17 stitches - didn't stop me pedalling the rest of the way though - OUCH! ]

  • the station at the beginning is Cowes

  • Thanks to all who help - I'm still working on a DVD but very busy right now.

  • Flying Scotsman worked the Isle of Wight Special on 18 May 1963.

  • Yes it is seen on the ciné film. John was on the trip, from Gainsborough.

  • Im surprised no ones mentioned the Scotsman, great to see particularly as lot of the of the lines are long gone and sadly before my time! Real history, Thanks again.

  • The trip was behind 4472 from Gainsborough to Southampton and back.

  • How this terminus station should still be in Cowes today. Marples and Beeching caused more damage to Cowes and the whole country than the Luftwaffe ever did or wanted to. The station was in the middle of Cowes High Street.

  • Oh how wonderful to see those old trains again. Living in Cowes as a child through late teens, I used the rail frequently to get to Newport or Ryde. Always loved sticking my head out of the window when we went through the tunnels. Remember the old "sash" windows that you pulled up or let down with a leather strap? And I will never forget the smell of those coal fired engines. Thank you for bring back a host of wonderful memories.
