My "No Cone" Challenge is over and I decided to go 100% Curly Girl (CG). Here are the basic elements needed to follow the Curly Girl Program... WATER, CONDITIONER (that do not contain silicones), NON-DRYING CLEAR GEL, and absolutely NO SHAMPOO!!!

In this video, I share my experiences as I went thru this month-long "No-Cone" Challenge and I also show you which products I will continue to use and which products I will discontinue using.

For more information on the Curly Girl (CG) method, purchase "Curly Girl, The Handbook" by Lorraine Massey or click on the links below:

More info concerning Silicones (Cones for short):

Cone is short for silicone. Silicone is a coating which smoothes the hair cuticle and gives the hair a shiny, healthy appearance but unfortunately this coating can block out moisture, making the hair water-resistant. There are some cones, however, that are water-soluble and can be be easily washed out with a co-wash, but there are also cones that are not water-soluble and would need a clarifying shampoo to remove.

Type of Silicones:

Not water soluble (Will buildup in hair)
1. Cetearyl methicone
2. Cetyl dimethicone
3. Cyclopentasiloxane
4. Dimethicone
5. Dimethiconol
6. Stearyl dimethicone
7. Trimethylsilylamodimethicone

Slightly soluble (May cause buildup in hair but some have found will still wash out with cowash)
1. Amodimethicone
2. Cyclomethicone
3. Bis-Aminopropryl Dimethicone
4. Behenoxy dimethicone
5. Stearoxy dimethicone

Water Soluble (Will not buildup)
1. Dimethicone copolyol
2. Hydrolyzed wheat protein hydroxypropyl polysiloxane
3. Lauryl methicone copolyol
4. Silicones with PEG listed before it

  • Great video! I Totaly agree about the Treseme products!!! Whew....can you say dryyyy! Going to look for the book @ Amazon....Thanks!

  • @bmjm74 Dry isn't the word!

  • Your hair is so beautiful. Whatever you do I plan to copy. what do u recommend as a good leave in conditioner that is cg friendly.

  • @Ygnluv12 I would definitely recommend the ShidaNatural's Moisturizing Cream / Detangler. That is now my staple product after my rinse out conditioner. I also use it sometimes as a night-time moisturizer.

  • Is it not advisable to use to use the same conditioner to co-wash and as a leave in?

  • @funkyredhead1 It depends what conditioner you're using. For example, I may co-wash with VO5 conditioner, and detangle / deep condition and leave a little of the BedHead Moisture Maniac Conditioner.

  • Great video. Really useful information

  • The Curly Girl method? Thanks. I'm going to check that out!

  • So happy I got hooked on to the Curly Girl method. I use Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle shampoo (sulfate free) and Garnier Fructis Pure Clean conditioner. My hair's never been better!

  • U go girl! thanks

  • @Ygnluv12 My hair loves creamy leave-ins rather than butters after I shampoo & condition, and right before applying my curl defining product. To me, water-based proucts are the best.
