Seeming as how 2007 and later is now the standard anyway. Just get 365 for $9.99/month if you can't afford to drop over $100 on 2007. The two are pretty much identical as far as placements of the features in the UI. Although, there are some changes. Good for if you need something more up to date like I do, since my college uses 2007.

(1)For $9.99 a month, I can use Office 365 for school. I usually would prefer to use LibreOffice but, because I am taking a class as part of my computer networking major in college, I have to take a Microsoft Office course for both Word and Excel. We use 2007 at the college, but $9.99 is much easier for the latest version than $100+ upfront for 2007, and Office 365 has pretty much the same interface as 2007, so it's easier to do my homework with it than it is with LibreOffice.

I got Office 2007 Ultimate and it does everything that I need it to do so I'll stick with it until Microsoft stops supporting it with updates or if they decide to make a new file format (like from .doc to .docx). Plus, I hate the fact that pretty much everything is white in Office 2012. Hurts my eyes too much. That's also one reason I haven't upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7.
