There are hundreds of studies underway at Wisconsin National Primate Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and workers there are giving a look at the care the research primates receive. David Douglas reports
This is disgusting. All of this research is for human benefit and completely ignores animal welfare. Testing on prisoners would be much more conclusive, so based on utilitarian reasoning, should it be allowed? Disease and death in the wild is a part of life, so I do not find the argument that testing also cures animal disease valid. I am sure the animals would much rather live in their natural habitat with normal risks than be in a cage forever.
as a person whos life was saved by medicine derived directly from primate research im 100% for testing on primates. but i am completely against testing on non primate species as i believe that all results would be inconclusive. i also feel that research should be limited to just a few species such as baboons, chimps, and maqauces .
