winter '06-'07's first visit from the ishiyaki imo (sweet potato) truck to the school - November 14, 2006. the truck drives through the streets selling baked/roasted sweet potato by the pound. oishii - delicious. during the day you can hear the high pitched sound from the truck on the street - like the equivalent of an ice cream truck song. when i was walking around the city after new year's, i heard the truck, and stopped. behind me in line were two boys; maybe 8, 9, 10 years old. one of them was so excited for the ishiyaki imo truck that he was hopping back and forth from foot to foot with gigantic grin on his face. (also the first kanji character on the back of the truck is one of the few kanji i know; it means "ishi" and it's how i'm able to comfort myself in times of (self-created) diress when i worry i've taken the wrong train back from sendai (which, really, would be virtually impossible to do), because it's used to make the word "ishinomaki")
