By my estimate, Damjan Zabovnik rode the Fastest Standing Start Ten Mile bicycle time trial (unofficial) in history during this practice run in 11 minutes, 8 seconds for an average speed of 53.92 mph. I figure this speed by knowing his lap times on the first two laps of the 5.662 mile track.
On this 5.662 mile oval course in Arizona, human powered vehicle riders had gathered to try and set a new One Hour World record. So this was NOT a ten mile TT event. However, as the speeds on every lap was recorded, we can estimate how fast then completed the first ten miles. His speed on the first 5.662 mile lap was 51.3 mph for a time of 397.33 seconds. On his second lap, he averaged an incredible 57.78 mph. His third lap, he averaged 55.64 mph. No other human powered vehicle rider has ever started this fast during any ten mile or Hour record event. Damjan rode only three laps at this high speed, before slowing down and then pulling off the course after 4 laps.
The day before, Damjan Zabovnik pedaled this streamlined bicycle, the Eivie II at 52.304 mph average speed for One Hour at Nissan Test Track in Arizona April 7, 2007. This was the 3rd best average ever and a new European Record. He pedals lying on his back facing backwards while looking up into a rearview mirror to see where he's going. Damjan's best speed over 200 meters is 74.96 mph at Battle Mountain Nevada, which makes him the fourth fastest HPV rider in the world as well.
He did this quick run partially for the amusement of the spectators on April 7, 2007. I only wish I had filmed a bit longer to hear Alice explanating to the track visitors that he was pedaling backwards using a mirror to see forward.
how fast is it going?

Damjan was going approximately 57 mph when he pedalled by during this lap. His average speed I estimate at close to 54 mph for the first ten miles. Read the More info at right.
