Nothing hits the spot like a cartoon of penguins making and distributing cigarettes, except perhaps a tasty cigarette itself. Even the Statue of Liberty enjoys these cigarettes and that's because cigarettes equal FREEDOM, baby. Right on!

Am I imagining it, or did Dave and Max Fleischer make this film? It seems to has their stamp all over it.

It's a Brown & Williamson promotional film. It does remind me of the early black and white betty boop cartoons a little, but there's no rotoscoping in it

That animation studio basically invented rotoscopig if I remember right, but I'm not sure what your message is in reply to... the best example of it I remember is some halloween type dance that was rotoscoped in a betty boop cartoon

Nevermind penguins flying - How about the use of eugenics in picking the best mint leaves! I would even suspect that some of those penguins were meant to be youth - perhaps suggestive of the covert audience this commercial was intended for. Wow! The creative department stopped short of using Santa and his elves!

Thanks for posting this. It's unbelievable! Penguins making Kool cigarettes. I always loved how they had that drunk appearing penguin in the ads-I was a child, but remember the Kool ads.

@batschlach Bullshit. Just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it was made to appeal to kids. Theatrical cartoons were made to entertain audiences of all ages. It was only with the coming of television that people started associating cartoons with children's fare.

Besides, smoking used to be NORMAL. Hell, it used to seem like EVERYONE smoked.
