Just A quick highlight/tribute video I made of the defensive wizard Nicolino Locche. The Sardinian-Argentinian was a defensive master. In my book, Locche is the greatest pure defensive fighter that ever laced up gloves. He feints, slips, rolls, blocks, counter-punches, and picks you off. Locche often made his opponents look silly, frustrating them as they found it incredibly difficult to land cleanly on him.

"To understand Locches greatness, one must realize that Locche was a defensive savant with no punching power.

Locche exemplified the true art and craft of boxing. He could find subtle angles to pile up points despite not being naturally gifted with unusual hand and foot speed. More interestingly, by the end of Locches 18-year career, he had compiled over 1,300 rounds of ring activity, but was a known chain smoker. Locche was an anomalous fighter like Willie Pep who made it look easy against the best. Like Pep, Locche was able to compete at the elite level over multiple decades because he mastered the fundamentals of the game and possessed abnormal ring intelligence. In my opinion, Pep and Locche are the two top defensive fighters in boxing history."

I'm only offering a download link because the quality of the footage isn't so stellar. Please don't upload this highlight elsewhere. I would appreciate that.

  • I don't know how old are you but you sound like the 12 years old here. And no - i am not agitated at all :) why should i ? but i ask myself if you are not a little stunted ( sorry ) I said ( wich is a well known fact ) that Locche has pathetic KO rate .You try to convince me he is agood puncher and his KO rate is good .Ok-you have your own world i let you live in it .Grow up , learn some more about boxing and then maybe some day you will change your mind .Take care.

  • I don't no if you are 12 yrs old, foreign or just an idiot. You are trying to sound smart, but your grammar shows that you are either agitated or english isn't your first language... hence your comprehension of my statement... which you don't understand. Again, stick to tennis and stop watching boxing... you are wasting space for boxing knowledge. Your examples suck, just like your FIRST comment on this thread. Squid!

  • And BTW - Your comment shows your lack of knowledge ( sorry i don't want to insult you but ist obvious ) Foreman didnt lost against Ali's speed he lost against himself till the ko he rocked and dominated Ali . Ali lost against slower opponents like Frazier and Norton . Liston won against many faster opponents like Patterson. Foreman with pure power became the oldest HW champion in history .

  • Its very possible i know more about boxing than you . You live in your own reality . Locche was a very weak puncher and like i said he is cosidered the most feather fisted champions of all time . Thats a fact . You have problems with understanding or reading ? His ridiculous low ko percentage came not from nowhere .

  • The Japanese could not hit any punch to Nicolino, and tried to hit him using his elbows, too hahah!! and he could not hit Nicolino either!!! Master of Defense

  • @DranzieBooy Here we go again... Ali defeated Foreman... that night power didn't beat defense or speed, Ali beat Liston with speed and Liston's was meaningless against Ali, Shavers power was meaningless against Ali's & Holmes speed and defensive, and Tunneys speed overcame Dempsey's power... So again... not trying to offend you but judging by your argument of Locches ko % being pathetic shows that you know very little of boxing. Dont let yourself be influenced by percentages!

  • Thats very ill mannered, meaningless and inmatured what you are writing right now. Are you trying to insult me?.Power ( at least in Pro boxing ) is equally important as other elements maybe not as speed but almost the proof - Foreman,Dempsey,Liston Shavers,Lyle etc. Locche didn't have enough power to knock out most of his opponents - He and Maxi Rosenblum are considered by most ase the 2 most feather fisted greats of all times so stop talking trash. His ko rate is pathetic thats a fact.

  • @DranzieBooy I mentioned Tyson because he has a great ko %... but the ko's came against unworty opponents. When he fought worty opponents, his ko % diminished a whole lot, so what does that tell you about his power? Skill, speed and defensive> than power. All of the opponents that I mentioned had enough power to ko most of their opponents, but they instead decided to let their skill and defensive be the elements to lead to victory. Seriously, you're a squid. Don't watch boxing anymore.

  • I don't know what Tyson had to with that . Most boxing fans would say that your comment is pointless . Extremely defensive fighters that you mentoned- had - Wright 43% Ko percentage , Benitez 50 % , Whitaker - 36 % . Camacho - 43 % , Pep - 26 %. Locche had ...10 % . And sorry thats - Pathetic . If you like it or not . I don't judge his overall skill but his power and punching skills are just very bad . And thats a fact .

  • You must not have been good at either. boxing itself or boxing fan. If you understand boxing, which you seem to not, you would think about all the defensive greats (whitaker, winky, camacho, benitez, Floyd WILLIE PEP!) didn't have a high ko percentage. The truth is, whether you think his ko percentage is pathetic, most people (BOXING FANS) would say that your comment is pointless because it had nothing to do with his boxing element. Tyson had a high ko percentage... 90% of them were tomato cans.
