I started scribbling a new digital painting today. In this video, you can see that the majority of the illustration is extremely rough. I thought that I would do a 'trial run' to show you basically how I go about painting hair. It doesn't, at this point, have any real light source and the colours aren't affected by the environment, which I would usually add in after this step.
As it turned out, my computer crashed as the video recording was finalising, and I lost all the work I'd done on the hair. Nevermind!

  • What brush did you use to make the Highlights? >.>

  • The whole painting is done using simply the round, hard edge brush. To 'block in' the colours at the beginning, I painted with my Wacom tablet's pen pressure set to size. The more pressure, the bigger the brush.

To do the highlights, I changed the pen pressure to also include opacity changes, that is, the more pressure, the higher the opacity of the paint I'm using. I simply chose the colour paint I wanted to use for the highlights and brushed it on, building up the highlight slowly. :)
