Good video.. all my mates think my diabetes was caused by my diet, i think type two diabetes should change the name.. its really annoying! :)

It's not just kids. I get odd looks when I use my insulin pen at restaurants. But I don't hide it... no one should.
I'm not sure I like the distinction about type 1 and type 2 though... does it really matter how you got it? The point is, you have to use insulin, and people just need to get their head around that.

any one looking for diabetes volunteers call me 00923214772686 email adilpk26@yahoo.com thank you so much.

@empyphil I'm glad that works for you but in hospital, when people need injections, do they take them to the least sanitary room in the building to do so? No.

@shugalooker It's odd but most of the remarks such as seen in the video that I've been exposed to as a T2 have come from T1s. Fwiw I'm 5'11", 160 lbs, 11.4 stone. People far skinnier than me get T2. Recent research indicates T2 may involve an AI attack on insulin receptors instead of the pancreas causing insulin overproduction in an effort to compensate. Insulin is the hormone controlling fat deposition and excess insulin makes some T2s fat. If you want education try yourself first.

just tell the haters "God gave me diabetes because he knew I was strong enough to handle it"

Type one diabetes is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks and kills healthy cells in the pancreas. It's not something you can stop or prevent, and anyone can get it. I wish more people would understand the difference between type 1 and type 2. People ask me "how come you have diabetes when you're skinny"... Even my doctor got it mixed up and said i had the life style induced diabetes.. it's an insult to people who didn't bring it on, we need more education about type one!!

I think I may have diabetes, Im really scared :C I feel so sorry for the people who do, what did they do to be bullied. I really don't want to use insulin though, because Im scared of injections. If I have, i think its gonna ruin my life...
My best friend who I have known since I born has suddenly turned round and called me a freak for having it. I am use to the fact people call me a druggie ect and am use to everyone giving me "the look" when I inject myself but to have my best friend call me that made me for the first time feel like I was a piece of crap. I would love to see this on the TV so my frields understand what it feels like to live with Diabetes or for a newer to be made, thank you to whoever reads this

@cook12435 That's very sad to hear. We hear from a lot of people who unfortunately get similar comments made towards them, and it's unacceptable. Hopefully this video highlights the issues young people face, and we can help to stop any discrimination. Hope you're ok :)

Great video,I have type 1 also and I'm sick of people thinking that I brought this on myself.Type 1 diabetes is only 5% of the entire diabetic population and yet when the media portrays the disease they dont take the effort to differentiate the two types. They say diabetes as its general term and this causes type 1's to be looked down on due to the people's perception of type 2.If there was a petition to change the name of type 1 diabetes to something else, I would! This would help clarify things

@SammySoliman Perhaps better education and more awareness raising would be better than changing the name? Glad you like the video :)
