Part 2
CHICAGO -- Ferguson Jenkins and Greg Maddux will be celebrated on Sunday at Wrigley Field as the Cubs retire the No. 31 both wore with the team.
"[Jenkins] epitomizes what a professional pitcher is all about," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "Maddux is the same guy."
What the two right-handers accomplished in their careers is mind-boggling to the current Cubs pitchers. Carlos Zambrano and Angel Guzman were discussing Jenkins' 1971 season on Saturday, a campaign in which the right-hander made 39 starts, notched 30 complete games and totaled 325 innings.
"I could do that if I pitched every three days," Zambrano said.
"Give me the secret," said Guzman, who is trying to make it through one season and entered this year with less than 100 innings total.

By the way, 8 all-star games does seem way too low given who he is and what he did. I think a couple times he discouraged selection, and a few others his stats were better in the season's second half, after All-Star selection (and when pennant races are in full force).
Getting to 300 wins in this era with an ERA below 3.00 (I think it was 2.94 when he reached 300), when considered seriously, may be one of the top handful of accomplishments in baseball history. Pedro's ERA, for example, is almost 3.00 now and his win total is in the low 200s. Amazing.
There is no question that he will go in as a Brave. He made baseball history in Atlanta. Even if he wanted to be a Cub, the HOF can veto a players selection like they did with Wade Boggs who wanted to go in as a Yankee
He is a Cub. I don't think any Cub fan denies his true greatness came as a Brave but he achieved excellence as a Cub as well. Not to mention the fans in Chicago love him. I'd be mad if he wore a Cub hat in Cooperstown hehe
