This is a Southern Wind Lion Dance slideshow at the last VSA meeting to recap on the highlights of the year 2007-2008. Also included is our dedications for the seniors and alumni. This was shown in conjunction with our new promo video trailer: "Power Lions (teaser trailer) - Gio Nam Mua Lan (Lion Dance)"

Note: Yes I think this song is played out too but it's perfect for what I had in mind. Enjoy.

  • @neva2muchrice Yes, I help out where ever I can. I am the troupe carpenter I make all the benches, props & stands, fix heads and do what ever else they need. I also assist them with there music, big supporter. It is a wonderful group to work with, lots of fun and great food always.

  • @fukwagaifan hahaha ah those lovely ladies. Yes we not only know of them but have met a few of them. They truly are amazing and breaking the chain of a nonsensical tradition. Are you with them?

  • @johnnygo615 why don't you guys check out Gund Kwok asian women's lion & dragon dance troupe in boston.

  • @johnnygo615 couldn't have said it better myself

  • @neva2muchrice very true i guess we cant change traditions but we can start our own

  • @johnnygo615 well thanx for the info and good to know that it follows the idea of the rooster blood during blessing, though I think what I said sort of apply to that idea. There's the myth behind it and there's the reality of it. To say that the male is good/yang while the female is bad/yin seems a little patriarchy. In today's society it is clear that female represents life and birth while male represent death and destruction but in yin and yang those are opposite. To each his own I suppose.

  • @neva2muchrice um the lions are male because males represent yang which is good if it was a female it would represent yin which is dark. i cant really explain it but thats basically why the lion are male

  • @shizraa We do not apply this idea to other teams of course and respect other ideas and beliefs. A few of our female members joined lion dance because their parents told them that it is only for males and to prove their parents wrong, they are breaking that tradition.

  • @shizraa well we know/understand that there are no female lions in southern style but we feel it's mainly because when lion dance started, female did/could not learn martial arts and kung fu fighters will not dance in a female lion to show off the strength of the school. With the integration of female in the modern world doing martial arts and lion dance, we feel it is only right that there should be both female and male lions on our team.

  • Lol y u call the lions 'her'?
