Home to the eastern Miao people, who called themselves "Gho Xiong" or "People of Bamboo."

Home to the Hmong ancestors, who settled, flourished, bled, and buried on this beautiful land.

The thread of life, connected by clothes, to traditions, to religion, to the thread that connect the ceiling to family's altar.... losing one's aspect of the Hmong culture is losing one's connection to the Hmong ancestors and the root of one's identity.

The Hmong culture and history is very complex to fully understand. One must look into the different Miao groups in China to understand the position and developed culture of the Hmong people.

To the east, live the Gho Xiong.
To the center, live the Hmu and Kanao.
To the west, live the A-Hmao and Hmong.

You cannot make assumptions, you cannot be ignorant, if you don't understand.

You are able to live in peace and love others, if you are able to know your root.

You seriously haven't done your homework.

  • @niamtxiv i disagree.. Hmong does not mean "sons of soil".

  • Whatever the word Hmong mean...that is not important to us but what is important to us is to remember that the word Hmong must mean something by our ancestors or our creators. That is why we kept it until today. Hmong chinese in general still call themselves Hmong too. They only identify themselves as Miao when they went to the city but they call themselves Hmong when they go back to the village.

this is the new version of meaning the word "miao". The original meaning of the word "miao" meaning barbarian. Later...they change the meaning to "grass"...meaning that they try to elimiate the Hmong race but they cannot as we do our farm...we try to elininate every grass from our farm but grass continue to grow. I do not believe that the word Hmong mean free either. thanks bro

  • @Opetlao

No. Hmong does not mean "free people." Hmong means "sons of soil." Miao means "ntsoj tsuag plej liaj teb."
