Paul Gilbert on the 1985 album Black Sheep - Trouble In The Street

"I can't remember which songs I played on! Kurt James played guitar on half of the record and he actually sounds better than me. For some reason I had a hair-brained scheme of recording my amp "direct" with no microphone. The result was my guitar sounded very unnatural and buzzy. Like an angry bee caught inside a paper towel tube. Kurt used a mic, so he rocked."

  • Thought Slash was in this band?

  • I saw these guys at the Troubadour in 1984 when they were a 3 piece. Paul Gilbert had short hair, wore jeans and a T-shirt and was about 18. Willie was about 26 and I don't know who the drummer was but he was playing on a crappy, little single bass kit but he was a power house. Fantastic drum solo. He had long black hair and I've always wondered if it was Scott Travis that night. There were probably 25 people in the place that night as I think it was a weekday. Good memory. Lucky catch.
