Disarming Hezbollah remains a concern - 25 May 08

Security has been tightened in the Lebanese capital ahead of the vote for a new president. General Michel Sleiman, the Lebanese army commander, is expected to take up the role which has been vacant for the past six months. As an important step is taken in trying to resolve Lebanon's political divisions, the question of who could disarm Hezbollah still lingers. Zeina Khodr reports from southern Lebanon about the issue.

Hezbollah were the true sons of Lebanon. Me and many of my countrymens have donated some money to help Lebanese fight the Israel during 2006 war and we will again if the new conflict erupt.

I'm a Sunni Muslim and proud. Those who try to sow the seed of dissension between Sunni and Shia, like Demon2Angell here are the agents of the enemy. Sunni or Shia, we are muslim and that's what matters.

@MrSweetlife92 3) Saudi never helped the US invade another Muslim country but Iran did so you cannot call Saudi a western dog and Iran not as the facts prove otherwise.

Plus my friend, I do not take this from the western media as I'm a proud Lebanese. I think for myself and do not need anyones help but I tell you how I see it. You think religion is not involved? I think the reason why Lebanon is like this is because of religion. This is the pure reason yet people say its political.

@MrSweetlife92 The difference between Saudi and Iran is the following;

1) Iran opresses its own people (shai and sunni) and there has been huge violent demonstrations in Iran which shows how happy the people are with the state whils Saudi never had such demonstartion and people live in peace as the state provides everything to its citizens.

2) Saudi has never been the cuase or violence in Lebanon. No weapons were given or anything of such while Iran has.

@MrSweetlife92 I'm going to have to disagree with you about saudi. Let me tell you why. Nearly every nation has good and bad. The ruling family in Saudi is no different to any other ruling family or human. They have corrupted people in there. The point I want to make is not to judge a whole country by the fuling family because that won;t be fair. Qatar has the biggest US base in it yet no one seems to speak against it. Iran helped the US to invade Iraq and Afghanistan yet no one speaks ont his.

@Demon2Angell pleeeeeeeeease do not start conflicting and dividing by sunnis and shiaas, Lebanon has no problem in this case what so ever. dont get politics and religion mixed up, a sunni and a shiaa are neighbours and there are no problems between them, you've either heard this from western or western influenced media which has brainwashed u into thinking this. listen Demon2Angell, hence ur name i dont think we should be carrying on this convo, u have a very misunderstanding opinion on this.

@MrSweetlife92 Now I realise though, when Hizbullah became strong with the help of Iran, Shia's and Sunnis started to divide big time. There has been great enmity between the two but ask yourself who to blame? Saudi? saudi has always been giving to Lebanon money but there were no divisions. Iran? I think so because only when it put its hands on Lebanon is when things started to get bad. I do not know about Syria but I do know they are good at playing dirty games.

@MrSweetlife92 All in all, Lebanon has been used as a battle field. Thats ok though because resistance in Lebanon did not die for no reason. However, i want to make a very important point. A long time ago in Lebanon (before Hizbullah and before Iran helped Hizbullah), my father used to tell me that we didn;t know many of our friends were Shia. When we go to Sunni mosques to pray, our shia brothers used to pray with us in the same mosque.

@Demon2Angell i understand clearly everything u mean, and it is true, many from the south did not appreciate it for several political reasons.. when im gonna do u a favour but pitty u over what i've given, u will not be happy. and plus that isnt the case with ''if ur not with us ur israeli'', syria is negotiating under the table with israel and hezballah KNOWS yet syria is an ally and a supporting nation, but the negotiations are for its benefits.. Lebanon is not safe with israel to its south.

@MrSweetlife92 Any resistence against Israel is good offcourse and people supported hizbullah during the 2006 war. Think about it logically. When people from the south needed help and shelter, everyone in Lebanon helped them yet there seems to be no loyalty and appreciation. Hizbullah has given people the wrong idea which is :if your not with us then ur Israeli". How is that true? U have people who are against both sides, you have people who do not support Hizbullah and are against Israel.

@Demon2Angell I can the Christians are the richest and the Shiaas are the poorest in Lebanon, doesn't mean this is literally the case.. its based on individuals in generally nowadays, people suffer from the same problems and issues in Iran, and it being vastly Shiaa, I'd say the Shiaa Muslims have the highest rate of poverty.
