I gotta say, every video I ever seen of somebody actually sliding, they put their hands on the ground. I don't know where this instruction came from to leave your hands in the air. I've tried it and I've tried coaching it, it doesn't work. Watch a highlight reel from the MLB. They have one hand on the ground and their feet spread out to form a triangle with the hand. One foot in front then the other is tucked (in or out I've seen both) and the hand (not the butt) complete the triangle.
