The market was part of a gapps zip file
No real fix. I updated to the latest experimental vegan gingerbread on the xda forum, which only partially fixed; allows me to down load and install all apps, but market/my apps still shows "No downloads from Android Market"
Alternatively, AdroidPit app center provides a decent work around
