Michigan American Legion Post 298- 2011 Student Awards Program

The 57th Annual- 2011 Student Awards of Captain Oscar Brady Post No. 298 was a great success. Our American Legion State Commander Bill Hafeman, and his wife, Jan were present at the May 5th event held at W. K. Kellogg Auditorium in Battle Creek. Also attending were numerous State and District Legion dignitaries. For the first time, we had the honor of two distinguished community officials who agreed to be present to recognize the students; Michigan House Rep. Kate Segal of our 62nd District and City of Battle Creek Mayor Susan Baldwin. Unfortunately because of being tied up in a House vote in Lansing, Rep Segal could not attend, however we will see her next year for the 58th Annual ceremony.
Last year we had the privilege of recognizing nearly 100 students from 10 area schools. This year we will present awards to 112 students from 12 schools, including Doris Klaussen and St. Joseph Catholic Middle School.
Since 1954, and in 57 years of award presentations Captain Oscar Brady Post No. 298 has recognized nearly 6,000 students in Battle Creek for their courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service. This is truly a great legacy for our Post and all the students over the years.

After the ceremony, which lasted about ninety minutes, we invited the dignitaries to Post 298 to thank them all for making our 57th consecutive year a huge success. ~~Jim Carlin, Adjutant

Because of time constraints we were only able to publish part of this video, which lasts about 23 minutes. We will attempt to publish more of the ceremony very soon. DVD's will be available for the teachers, students, and parents if you contact me.
