I hate seeing this lie propagate: the Fisher space pen was developed independently of any NASA project. Once it was developed, both Space Agencies adopted it because of the danger of flammable graphite dust and broken pencil tips shorting circuits within the spacecraft. NASA did not contact Fisher about developing the pen, it was his own endeavor. They're actually really good pens for carrying around in your pocket because of the temperature tolerances, incidentally.
