Indeed and I agree with you. It may be possible though eventually -and professionally - to get the boat dated without disturbing the boat or regulars at the Railway, so at least we have a better idea of what it is down there. Even this though would not be done unless there was full agreement between all the relevant authorities. The radar done in 2007 was totally harmless.

E-T: According to the experts it's not a burial boat and it may not even be Viking - its only a guess or hypothesis at the moment. Another hypothesis is that it's a later vessel, around the 13th Century. Although we would all like to know the nature of the boat, its status/integrity is the overriding priority and as the interview says their research using ground penetrating radar says its still there and it's safe in the waterlogged clay until the time it can be further safely investigated.

It is nice to know there are still people that understand the importance of not disturbing the dead. The builders of the Railway clearly understood this and we must respect their decision too.

Good to know. Disturbing a burial boat would be like exhuming a coffin after 1000 years. We know what they were for so no need to dig them up.
