Once in a while something magical happens in the entertainment industry, and Morafe is that magic. Morafe was originally named The IL Tribe (Intimate Lyrical Tribe ), the group consists of three members namely: Kgaugelo ( a.k.a. Kay-G ) Khulani ( a.k.a. Khuli ) and Lerothodi ( a.k.a. Towdee ). Morafe is a Hip-Hop group that fuses vernacular rap with a twist of soul and R&B.Morafe music involves influential messages in Setswana and English yet largely comprehended lingo.
Morafe has just released their much anticipated debut album titled Maru a Pula which is Tswana for Rain Clouds. This style of Hip-Hop has been in existence since the days of Baphixile, Crowded Crew and Hip Hop Pantsula. Morafe brings a different element and sound not only to this type of music but also to the South African music scene. Morafe is the group to represent South African hip-hop music industry on an international level. Our main objective is to encourage and inspire an international appeal into South African music scene.
Morafe worked with producer wonderkid Thabiso "Thaso" Tsotetsi. The group is from Mafikeng, the same place that brought you Thaso and HHP. Morafe was conceived between 1994 / 95, after it changed its name to Morafe. In 2001 Morafe featured on HHPs 2nd album Maftown on the track called Ayoba. In 2003, again they made another appearance on HHPs 3rd O Mang on the tracks Maak Om, Raise it up and Danger. Morafe also wrote and composed a song on the soundtrack from the hit TV hit series Gazlam 2; a track called Jozi City Lights. Morafe member Khuli also made a guest appearance in another track on the same album with Nothende, the track is called Ooh.
Towdees lyrical style can be described as smooth and full of charisma. He brings the macaholic, floetic and lyrical flavour to Morafe music. Im five crews ahead of the game says Towdee.
Khulis style is raw, yet incorporates a rhythmic and very unique flow into Morafe music. He says Hes the Motswakoriginator.
Kay-G brings the milder taste by adding an R&B and more soulful flavour to Morafe music. Kay-G is the soul of Morafe music.
2006 sees Morafe growing to new heights, their done recording their second album titled (A Ene:The revelation). On production is Thaso (responsible for Tuks - Mafoko a me "Winner for best Rap @ the SAMAS"), 37Mph, Ishmael, Towdee and artists featured are Maftowns finest Tuks, HHP and many more. Their also busy shooting their fisrt DVD (Morafe T.V) which will be a series of episodes featuring Mzansi's finest Rappers (Watch the space).
