@wintersbreeze winter in Australia isn't like all snow and stuff.. Officially, Australia's winter is from June to August. In the south of the continent, these months are the wettest and coldest times of year. The northern tropical parts of the country do not have a winter, but rather a 'dry season'. I found this online :)

that's because it's a sat (satellite) mobile phone. it has more coverage esp on an island like that than any of those slimline or 3G mobile phones like nokia, motorola, etc. that "brick" phone is especially designed for any remote places in the world & army uses them most of the time.
