One of my favorite vacation spots, Lava Beds National Monument in Northern California. This is Glass Mountain, an enormous rhyolitic lava flow between the Lava Beds and and Medicine Lake. Geologists please forgive me for my terrible explanations. Just mute it and enjoy the view. The Glass Mountain lava flow is extremely young--only about 900 years old. There were native people in the area at the time that probably witnessed the eruption, and later used the obsidian to make arrowheads for hunting.
