I thought I would include a couple level videos, too, in case the strategy helps anyone. I like balanced builds because magic keeps you alive and offers a lot of utility so you can beat any situation you encounter, while attack allows you to get through a level faster and take down single ice obelisks better.

Here I take a balanced build slightly favoring attack (I took viking coat instead of mage robe, my usual armor) because attack is more efficient in this level vs single ice obelisks and flying serpents. Both builds will work, it's all a matter of preference. The Ninja Hood and Katana are staples for me, though. Another option is Ninja Hood, Mage Robe, Mana Staff. Since you find the Mage Hat in this level, you don't get a chance to use it until the volcano.
